Al Rayyan Stadium to be inaugurated on Qatar National Day

The Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy and all concerned authorities are currently preparing for the inauguration of Al Rayyan Venue, the fourth completed stadium for the FIFA World Cup 2022™. This will take place on Friday, 18 December 2020, to coincide with the celebration of the State of Qatar on its National Day. This date also marks the two-year countdown to when the final of the World Cup takes place in Qatar.

The inauguration of Al Rayyan Venue is an important milestone, as we move forward towards hosting the largest sporting event in the world. It embodies the efforts of the State of Qatar to move forward, overcoming all challenges and obstacles, and welcoming the whole world to the first World Cup in the Middle East and Arab world.

Al Rayyan Venue is the third stadium to be fully constructed from scratch, and the fourth stadium to be ready for Qatar 2022. With a capacity of 40,000, the design of this World Cup stadium reflects the originality of the heritage of the State of Qatar and its splendid decoration, and embodies features of the nature of life in Qatari society, such as family bonding, the beauty of desert life and wild nature. These elements are combined in the form of a shield to symbolise the meanings of unity and strength that the people of Qatar have always been proud of.

Due to its design which is rooted in Qatari culture, the announcement of Al Rayyan Venue’s readiness is the culmination of Qatar National Day celebrations, due to the heritage and social symbolism it represents. The inauguration also presents the fans with a glimpse of the unique experience that awaits them in 2022.
